Savannah Board of Trustees - Letter Regarding Assassination of President McKinley

This 1901 letter from the Savannah Board of Trade to First Lady Ida McKinley informs her of the resolutions adopted by the board in the wake of her husband’s assassination. Included is a copy of the resolution. Excerpts from the resolution were published in the September 18th edition of the Savannah Morning News.

President William McKinley became the 25th president of the United States in 1897, and was a guest of the Savannah Board of Trade in 1898. He was shot on September 6, 1901 and succumbed to his injuries on September 14th of that year.

Ida visited her husband’s resting place everyday until her death in 1907.
