Savannah Benevolent Association Sterling Silver Pin

The Savannah Benevolent Association was formed in 1854 in response to the Yellow Fever epidemic that year, which took the lives of over 600 people in Savannah.

Their purpose was to treat the ill and ease their suffering, both financially (those who were sick and survived lost wages, or families were left with no source of income when the head of the household died) and physically (directly treating the ill). Unfortunately, the latter meant that some members perished in the service of helping others.
