1884 Wager on Presidential Election:
On October 15th, 1884, book keeper John Augustus Thomas made a bet with insurance agent William H. Daniel that Grover Cleveland would be the next president of the United States. Clerk Moses Abraham Cohen Jr. acted as witness for the wager.
On November 4th, Cleveland won 219 electoral votes, becoming the 22nd president. Mr. Thomas presumably won a $6 hat from Mr. Daniel.
Mr. Daniel is buried at Laurel Grove Cemetery, while Mr. Thomas and Mr. Cohen are buried at Bonaventure Cemetery.
