Dated January 30th, 1795, this letter from William Pickett to Moses Brown in Newburyport, MA details the goods he has acquired in Savannah.
In his youth, William Pickett was a drummer for the Continental Army. He was captured by the British in 1777 and imprisoned for three years.
Captain Moses Brown was a prominent landowner, shipbuilder, distiller, and merchant from Newburyport, Massachusetts, who invested in the sugar, molasses, and rum trade during the late 18th and early 19th century. He died at sea in 1818.
