1780’s Hand Painted Engraving - Port of Savannah - Vernet

1780’s hand-colored engraving of the port of Savannah:

This engraving by F.A. Annert (1758-1800) was based on a painting by Claude Joseph Vernet (1714-1789).

Vernet was a French painter famous for his seascapes, inspired by the works of Bernardino Fergioni, Adrien Manglard, and Giovanni Paolo Panini.

It should be noted that Vernet had never been to Savannah (or any of the American views he painted), so the depictions were more fanciful than accurate.
